Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University (PSAU) maintains a formal and publicly accessible childcare policy that supports all university members—including undergraduate and postgraduate students—through inclusive, age-appropriate, and subsidised childcare services. These services are designed to enable recent mothers, particularly student parents, to continue their academic programmes without interruption.
Scope and Access
Childcare services are extended to all eligible members of the university community, including full-time students, faculty, and administrative staff. PSAU supports access to care for children aged 0 to 12 years.
On-Campus and Partnered Facilities
While on-campus childcare facilities are currently limited due to spatial constraints, PSAU has an active partnership with the licensed educational nurseries (Ahbab Al-Rahman Educational Nursery). These nurseries are strategically located directly opposite the PSAU female campus and offers:
- Daily care and supervision for infants and young children,
- Age-appropriate developmental and educational activities,
- Trained female staff aligned with national early childhood care standards.
This partnership allows for daily and flexible enrolment, with priority placement offered to recent student mothers and flexible fee structures subsidised by PSAU to reduce financial barriers.
Student-Focused Support Features
- Subsidised Access: PSAU provides co-funded access to childcare services for eligible student parents, lowering financial obstacles that might hinder attendance and academic participation.
- Flexible Hours: Childcare operating hours are synchronised with university class times to allow student mothers to attend lectures, participate in labs, and meet academic obligations.
- Academic Flexibility: In coordination with academic advising services, student parents are eligible for scheduling accommodations during examinations or course submissions, should parenting responsibilities require.
Ongoing Improvements
The University continues to explore the expansion of on-campus care centres in upcoming infrastructure plans, particularly within the Applied Sciences and Health Colleges. The objective is to increase capacity and bring care services closer to female student populations.
