SDG 2

The United Nations SDG 2 is aimed at the eradication of hunger everywhere by achieving food security, improving nutrition, and promoting sustainable agriculture. As enshrined in the UN goals for this SDG, the Saudi government is investing in ensuring sustainable food production systems and implementing resilient agricultural practices that increase productivity and production to help maintain ecosystems, strengthen capacity for adaptation to climate change, extreme weather, drought, flooding and other disasters and progressively improve land and soil quality.

Through its internal policies and programmes, PSAU is contributing towards the attainment of SDG 2 through its classroom activities, volunteer and outreach programmes and research undertakings. Specifically, the University is engaged in international cooperation related to rural infrastructure, agricultural research and extension services, technology development and plant and livestock gene banks in order to enhance agricultural productive capacity in developing countries. Figure 2 highlights some of the university’s research outcomes related to this SDG.
