3.1 No Poverty (SDG 1)

PSAU Progress, policy and progress against SDG 1
The United Nations SDG 1 targets the eradication of all forms of poverty. Aligning itself with UN goals for SDG 1, as part of its Vision 2030 programme, Saudi Arabia has also introduced numerous programmes, notably the cash transfer programme, which is a national social protection scheme that targets the poorest segment of its society. In addition to laws and policies that guarantee living wages for its teaming population, the different components of the Saudi Vision 2030 programme are designed to create additional jobs for the local populations and enhance their economic prosperity.

PSAU is at the vanguard of ensuring that its students are aware of these objectives via the different activities it organises within and outside its campuses. Moreover, by providing its students with monthly stipends and other forms of financial assistance, the University is guaranteeing that such students attend school unhindered while also relieving their parents and guardians of the burden of expenses related to tuition, books, and living allowances.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the unplanned transition to online learning it brought exposed many students from poor backgrounds to additional difficulties since they needed computing devices, internet access, etc. for their studies. Through its financial assistance programme, the University assisted such students to ease their transition to those unprecedented times.

Furthermore, the University organises regular events aimed at different audiences within the university and surrounding communities (students, women, farmers, etc.) to introduce them to latest entrepreneurial and business skills.

In terms of research, the university has funded and engaged in different collaborations with local, regional, and global institutions which have produced many outcomes that are impacting on policy related to this important SDG both locally and internationally.

Student Financial Support Initiatives

Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University (PSAU) is committed to contributing to Sustainable Development Goal 1 (No Poverty) by supporting students facing financial challenges. The university offers various financial assistance and skill development programmes that not only provide immediate relief but also empower students to achieve long-term self-sufficiency. These initiatives align with PSAU's mission to ensure equitable access to education and foster student success across multiple dimensions.

PSAU Student Fund Programmes

  • Non-refundable Grants: Financial assistance provided to students in urgent need.
  • Repayable Loans: Loans are offered to students, with repayment deducted from their monthly allowances to ease financial burdens.
The goal of this programme is to help students overcome financial obstacles that may hinder their academic pursuits.

2- Student Employment Programme
PSAU provides employment opportunities for students through its Student Employment Programme. This initiative aims to:

  • Develop students' professional skills by involving them in roles within university departments or colleges during their free time.
  • Offer financial compensation to participating students, enabling them to support themselves while gaining valuable work experience.

This program bridges the gap between education and professional life, empowering students to thrive both academically and professionally.
3- Offers and Discounts Programme
To alleviate financial pressures and enhance the academic experience, PSAU offers discounts on essential items such as:

  • Fashion and clothing.
  • Medical supplies.
  • Academic books and resources.

This initiative ensures students have access to affordable supplies necessary for their academic and personal development.

PSAU Progress, policy and progress against SDG 2

Through its internal policies and programmes, PSAU is contributing towards the attainment of SDG 2 through its classroom activities, volunteer and outreach programmes and research undertakings. Specifically, the University is engaged in international cooperation related to rural infrastructure, agricultural research and extension services, technology development and plant and livestock gene banks in order to enhance agricultural productive capacity in developing countries.
